THE WEIGHT OF ABSENCE

THE WEIGHT OF ABSENCE

From the series Remnants of a Crown
Oil on canvas · 60 × 120 × 4 cm · 2026

In The Weight of Absence, the portrait remains after the subject has disappeared.

A form reminiscent of an elaborate wig emerges through layers of blue, turquoise, mineral tones and fragments of light. Yet its contours resist definition. Ornament dissolves into atmosphere; matter shifts between fabric, cloud and memory, while the space once occupied by the figure becomes an active presence of its own.

Part of the ongoing Remnants of a Crown series, the work continues an exploration of identity through what survives it. Symbols once associated with status, beauty and representation are stripped of their certainty, leaving traces rather than answers.

Here, absence is not emptiness. It has texture, history and weight.
